Bursting with garlic, ginger and gochujang this noodle dish with rice cakes is a popular street food in South Korea!

Ingredients

2 tablespoons Gochujang

1 teaspoon Gochujaru 

1 tablespoon Garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Ginger, minced 

4 blocks instant noodles

1 packet tteok rice cakes, soaked according to instructions

1 large tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

1 large tablespoon caster sugar

1 teaspoon MSG 

2 large tablespoons dark soy sauce

4 eggs, boiled

4 spring onions, thinly sliced

Coriander, picked

2 vegetable stock cubes

600ml boiling water

Toasted sesame oil

Method

  1. Add a splash of sesame oil along with the minced garlic and ginger to a large frying pan, allow to cook for 1 minute, add a splash of water then gochujang, gochujaru and continue to cook for another 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the soy sauce, sugar and msg. Dissolve the stock cubes in the boiling water and add it to the pan ensuring everything is combined.
  3. Add the rice cakes and boil the broth for 5 minutes, once the ricecakes become softer add the noodles and cook according to the packet.
  4. Once the noodles are cooked it is ready to serve! Top with a boiled egg, sesame oil, sesame seeds, spring onion and coriander.

Chef’s tips

Add cheese for a fun twist to reduce the spicy hit!
