Here's what the Bounceback Food team have been up to!

As the winter draws in, the cost of living crisis continues to unfold, and energy bills soar, foodbank use this Christmas will undoubtedly rise. Due to increases in both operational costs, and in the number of people seeking their provision, independent foodbanks will be under more pressure than ever to keep our communities fed.

Our Reverse Advent Calendar provides a festive and simple way to boost your local foodbank at this critical time of year. Simply download and print our PDF calendar, stick it to the fridge, grab yourself a cardboard box, and use the guide to add an item to the box each day.

Download our reverse advent calendar!

Once all (or as many as you can afford!) of the items are ticked off, drop them at your local foodbank or community pantry, using the table below to see donation drop off times. Why not get the whole family involved, and show that Christmas is about more than just receiving – it’s a time for giving too.

We would also love to see photos of your donation boxes and completed Reverse Advent Calendars – you can tag us on social media (@bouncebackfood), or email us at [email protected]. Help us spread the word this Christmas!

Our Reverse Advent Calendar is just a general guide, made up of the non-perishable food items and hygiene products that foodbanks regularly request. In order to help guide this nationwide effort, we’ve been in contact with food banks across the country to gather this information, so the campaign is as effective as possible.

The table below (updated weekly) details what extra donations would be useful, in addition to those listed in our Reverse Advent Calendar. You can also check where you should drop them off, and find out about any Christmas volunteering opportunities:

We are also grateful for any financial gifts which would sponsor our Taste and See Gift Cards. These enable clients to purchase food/drink items of their choice from a local participating shop (4 local Coops) so that they can access the fresh, refrigerated or frozen items which we cannot stock or distribute. We offer a gift card worth £6 per person in a household to anyone accessing a Foodbank package (capped at £36) to this end, so gifts into this scheme in effect go straight to help clients directly with food items of their choice.

We are also promoting the Trussel Trust ‘Guarantee Our Essentials’ campaign – sign the petition here: https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-involved/campaigns/guarantee-our-essentials/

If you, or a friend or colleague, are a volunteer at your local foodbank and would like to have your organisation’s exact donation requests listed on this page, please do get in touch via our contact page, or email Josie, our Marketing and Events Coordinator at [email protected].
